Home Business Lie Number Two
This is one of the greatest downsides to network marketing ever. The statement that is made out to your when you’re being inducted into the MLM business – “Make a list of all your friends, another of all your relatives and finally a list with the names of all your acquaintances – reach out to them, provide them with this marvelous opportunity”.
Visualize this. Complete isolation within your own society; ostracized by everyone known to you. Yes, that’ll give you a pretty good idea about what will happen if you go to all your friends and try pushing them a business opportunity. Most are likely to be happy at their jobs and just want to get along with their lives, as is.
To be completely honest, it is the people that are closes to you that detest being sold something by you. The closer someone is to you, the more likely they are not to listen to you and to block you from their lives if you attempt to push a ‘business opportunity’ their way. The reason for this is obligation. Whenever you approach family or friends for anything, there is a certain degree of obligation attached. Now, with simple things like borrowing money, you need would actually amplify the obligation felt in a tender manner, and your friends and family would gladly sort you out with cash – if you needed it.
However, putting money down onto an idea that they need to be ‘sold’ on; now, that would really key their obligation the wrong way. Yes they may listen to you, but they’ll run for the hills and never look back at you – ever. And it takes a long while for people to get over these experiences. Going after your friends and family as potential down-line is the worst thing ever possible and sadder stories have been told on this matter than need exist.
No, the method to the madness is to use a proper marketing perspective, and use the tools the business world has developed over the centuries. They work. The first thing to do is look at your product. Answer the questions – what is it you’re trying to sell, and what is the function the product or service. Through these answers you’d be able to identify the people that fall within the target audience that you want to go about reaching.
An example of this would be – you have a product that’s good for removing axel grease. Your answers to the questions posed above are: “I’m trying to sell axel grease remover. Axel grease remover gets at and removes grease off axels”. It’s a simple matter to figure out from here, who you’re trying to sell to. In this case, you’re definitely trying to reach anyone who has anything to do with car repairs – workshop engineers and individuals who may be interested in fixing their own cars.
The process here would be to identify the people you want to reach out to; based on the product you’re selling. Then going out and reaching the target audience by promoting the usefulness of the product itself.
Home Business Lie Number Three
The more one hears it, the more unconvincing it is – “Our product is number one and there’s not another product that’s comparable or in competition with it”. Anyone who believes that can’t possibly be living in the reality of the world. There’s a good reason why products are developed in the first place. That is because; there is a demand for the particular product or the range of those products. More to the fact, if there was not demand, the product would not have been thought up of in the first place. And where there is demand, however small that demand may be, there will be competing products in the market.
Here are a few things you need to clarify, every time you hear such an unbelievable statement like the one in the paragraph above. If anyone ever states that products is completely unique; or, without competition; just ask yourself and the person that made the statement – the following questions:
What is the end use of the product? To define the question, you need to be looking at what you would do with the product, and how you would go about satisfying the use, without actually using the product. It’s also pretty likely that if had no use for the product till now, that, you’ll have no use for the product once you buy it either. That is how you determine if the product should be in the market at all. In most cases, you’ll find that there is an alternative product that you can immediately think of, and if you cannot, then it’s pretty likely that you’ll not require the product at all. Human nature is to invent or fill a need – as soon as it is identified.
The next question you need to ask is: Is the product simply a fad. A fad is simply something that has a short duration attraction and will not stand the test of time for being useful in any way. Wearing wigs during the Victorian period was very trendy and many people made fair deals of money on the production and sale of wigs. However, that was a fad and died down over time due to the lack of any practical use. Similarly, it would be futile to buy a plastic bracelet that would not last out the week, except if it were a fad.
Next, and in this final step, you need to determine whether the product has any marketability. First of all, assuming you answered the first two questions to a fair degree of satisfaction, you need to ask yourself; would you buy it. And if you buy it, what would you do with it. This being answered, you also need to ask yourself, if you can actually imagine anybody else buying the product. If a fair number of people pop into your mind, it’s a good shot that the product is marketable. If not, then you’re better off not purchasing the product in the first place. However, say you do purchase the product, do attempt not to sell it to anyone stating that it’s the most unique product and there’s none other like it.
Home Business Lie Number 4
The gurus at the network marketing meeting say “go out, meet people, had out your business car to every that walks by you, put up posters and hand out fliers”. Sure go out and try it all. You’ll soon figure out, that it doesn’t work. Worse, you’d probably end up looking like a fool, loose a bunch of friends and maybe get a black-eye to boot. Here’s what you’re missing out in the message. The lie can actually be poked around at for some truth. The idea is not to actually go out and bombard people with material or jump on them insisting to them that you have the secret to making it rich. No, they’d take a look at you and figure you’re just looking to sell them something, even if it’s only an idea you’re trying to push.
Here are a few thoughts to think about. When you’re out there in the real world, how do you notice commerce being done? How are products moved? How are brands marketed? The answer is – through mass media. And the reason, big brands and products that earn in the billions of dollars is able to keep the average Joe out of the market, is because they have the money to advertise big, across all the billboards, on television, on the radio and through print. And as the average Joe, who wants to get a home business off the ground, you’d be way out of your league to compete within that market place.
The answer is not to quit either. In today’s world, you need to discover how the average joe and the small businesses are leveling the playing field. People automatically switch channels as soon as as an advertisement’s on TV or the radio, they subconsciously deselect areas of print that have advertising. These traits are habit for all people.
MLM and network marketing falls within the arena of direct marketing; so, go do some direct marketing. What’re we talking about? Simply blending the old and new media; there’s the telephone, and using the telephone is cheap. It’s even cheaper if you get yourself a VoIP connection and use that to make calls. Ever have a telemarketer call you? It’s pretty likely the telemarketer is from a mammoth company. But out there in the virtual world, it’s a level playing field and you have a chance through this medium. How about the internet? There’s a level playing field like no other. Imagine the possibilities you have of being able to reach as many as millions of people. Now we’re talking about contact. This is how you could and should reach out to people. Learn to talk right, and then to write right. If you’re convincing enough over the telephone and through internet based communications, then you have it made.
While you’re on your road to making it big in the big virtual world where every person or corporate is simply like an avatar, a ghost, all that matters is your ability to hone in on the right customers and convert them.
